In December 2018, Recycle Reef was a successful Artist in Residence program, where Sue made a coral reef headpiece from upcycled textiles at RPA Hospital atrium space. Patients and carers were invited to share in their experiences of the Great Barrier Reef with discussion for its future. This led to Recycle Reef being exhibited at the Sustainable Waste Art Prize (SWAP) in 2020 which is an annual competition hosted by Ryde Council to highlight environmental concerns.

In 2022 Stafford and Queen ran a weekend workshop titled “Ocean in Colour” at the annual Ocean Lovers Festival at Bondi Beach. Visitors were invited to create their underwater world with fluoro markers on a black background.

These are some examples of where art can play an important part in engaging with our communities on society and the environment. Open to ideas and contribution in future projects.
